Skyven reports sustained COP of 8.0 at its Arcturus steam heat pump demo

Skyven Technologies said on September 2, 2026 that its Arcturus steam-generating heat pump demonstration center in Dallas, Texas has achieved a sustained coefficient of performance of 8.0, according to the company's release. That is an improvement of more than 20% over the COP of 6.5 Skyven reported when it commissioned the 1 MWth unit on November 20, 2025, and the company attributes the gain to "refinements in design, controls, and integration."

The September release says the result exceeds the roadmap target announced at commissioning. The November release described that roadmap as one "to exceed 8.0," so on the company's own wording the demonstration has reached the target rather than passed it.

A COP of 8.0 means eight units of steam heat delivered per unit of electricity consumed, and Skyven says that at this level Arcturus needs roughly 10 times less energy per unit of steam than a conventional boiler. The company adds the counterweight itself: the figure sits at the top of the product's range. Arcturus produces temperature lifts from 38°C up to 185°C with corresponding COPs from 8.0 down to 2.0, per the release and the company's product page, and in customer deployments Skyven tailors performance to each site's operating conditions. The release names no customer installation; the 8.0 figure is from the Dallas demonstration center and is Skyven's own measurement.

The release carries an Antwerp dateline and is pitched at European manufacturers, for whom Skyven says the efficiency translates into lower steam costs and reduced compliance costs under the EU Emissions Trading System. "Nearly 90% of the natural gas that EU industry relies on for process heat is imported," Daniel Galis, Europe Director at the Renewable Thermal Collaborative, said in the release. Skyven describes itself as headquartered in both Antwerp and Dallas and sells Arcturus under an energy-as-a-service model in which the customer makes no capital investment.
