FedEx orders 2,000 Harbinger electric trucks, valued at over $300 million

Harbinger announced on September 30, 2026 an order from FedEx for 2,000 of its all-electric trucks, with a total order value Harbinger says exceeds $300 million. Harbinger calls the transaction "believed to be one of the largest binding orders for electric medium or heavy-duty trucks in history." The PR Newswire copy is datelined September 30; Harbinger's own site datelines it October 1 under a September 30 page date.

Delivery is planned by the end of 2027 across FedEx pickup and delivery operations in the United States and Canada, as one-for-one replacements for conventional vehicles in a mix of models from Harbinger's all-electric lineup. Harbinger plans to build and deliver all 2,000 within approximately 18 months.

The savings arithmetic is Harbinger's: an estimated average fuel-cost reduction of $20,000 a year per truck compared with the diesel vehicle it replaces, approximately $800 million for 2,000 trucks over a typical 20-year vehicle life, and, citing Department of Energy data, more than 1.7 million tons of CO2 avoided over their operating lives.

The order expands a relationship that already includes a board seat. In its Series C release of November 2025, Harbinger said FedEx co-led the $160 million round and placed an initial order for 53 Harbinger EVs in Class 5 and 6. Paul Melander, identified in the September 30 release as FedEx's Senior Vice President Safety & Transportation and a Harbinger board member, said in the Series C release that FedEx was working "toward a goal to electrify the entire FedEx pickup and delivery fleet by 2040." FedEx's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2026, citing its Network 2.0 transformation, says it is "reassessing the pace and scale of EV purchases against our previously stated 2030 EV purchase order goal."

The 2,500 Class 8 trucks announced through ZET SCALE on September 22, 2026 had a lessor, ZET Financial, as buyer of record, and its release called it the largest electric truck order to date in the United States; Harbinger's are medium-duty trucks bought by the fleet running them, and Einride's 500 Tesla Semis, announced August 18, 2026, are heavy-duty.
