Indiana, Hoosier Energy and AtkinsRéalis to study up to 6 GW of CANDU units
AtkinsRéalis, the State of Indiana and Hoosier Energy have signed an MOU to explore a campus of up to eight CANDU reactors, up to 6.0 GW, with no site, cost estimate or schedule named. AtkinsRéalis's Enhanced CANDU 6 design is in NRC pre-application activities, and its plan says the company intends to submit a construction permit application once a customer is identified.
AEP, X-energy and Amazon study 960 MW Xe-100 plant at Indiana coal site
American Electric Power and X-energy signed a joint development agreement, announced October 19, 2026, to study a 960 MW plant of 12 Xe-100 reactors at the former Breed Generating Station coal site in Sullivan County, Indiana. Amazon is funding development and, if the plant is built, intends to buy its power under a long-term contract covering the facility's costs; none of the companies gave a cost estimate or schedule for the plant.
NiSource tolls a 600 MW, 2,400 MWh battery alongside Microsoft deal
NiSource's GenCo signed a tolling agreement on October 15, 2026 for a 600 MW / 2,400 MWh stand-alone MISO battery that AGP Group will build and own, with payments expected to total about $2.2 billion over roughly 20.5 years. A day later NiSource announced a 20-year agreement to serve Microsoft's northwest Indiana campus from 2028 that grows GenCo's pool by about 1,100 MW; the battery is the only resource it has named.
Department of War plans shore-based Navy microreactor at Crane by 2028
The Department of War announced on September 9, 2026 the planned installation of an advanced nuclear Micro Modular Reactor at Naval Weapons Station Crane, Indiana, no later than September 2028, executed through the Army's Janus Program with the Navy and the State of Indiana. The release describes the reactor as commercially owned and operated and as the first power-producing reactor installed in Indiana, and names no vendor, design, output, or cost; an Army official's quote cites the Army's "regulatory authorities" without saying who licenses the unit.
