Mercedes-Benz sells its 47 European fast-charging hubs to Electra
Mercedes-Benz's 47 European fast-charging hubs, with 374 charge points, 31 of the hubs in Germany and six in Austria, became part of Electra's network from November 1, 2026, the two companies announced on November 3.
The carmaker decided to sell its European fast-charging network to Electra, a Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman told dpa, after reviewing its charging network market by market with the aim of "deploying resources specifically where they create the greatest added value." Mercedes's interim report for the third quarter dates the decision to July and the purchase agreement to August 3, 2026. As of September 30, the network's assets of €99 million, including €73 million of property, plant and equipment, and liabilities of €21 million were reclassified as held for sale, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Neither side disclosed the price when dpa asked, and the joint release frames the deal as a premium partnership without calling it a sale.
What Mercedes drivers get is access. Depending on their MB.CHARGE Public tariff, customers get preferential rates at Electra's more than 800 stations and 5,000 charge points in ten countries, can find and use the stations from the car or the Mercedes-Benz app, and can reserve compatible charge points before arrival; the service requires a separate charging contract with a selected third-party provider. For Electra, the hubs take its German network from 50 to 81 stations, and it plans to invest €200 million in Germany alone in 2027.
In the original plan, Europe was to follow North America. Mercedes announced its branded high-power charging network on January 5, 2023, starting that year in North America, with rollout in Europe, China and other main markets to follow and more than 10,000 high-power chargers worldwide by the end of the decade. The European part now goes to Electra; the report's note is headed "Sale of parts of the fast charging network." Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging carries on in North America, where in September it was named operator of a 38-stall hub that broke ground beside JFK Airport.
