Daikin recalls about 4,633 Amana through-the-wall units over fire hazard

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing is recalling about 4,633 Amana through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps in the United States, plus about 126 sold in Canada, because the units' snubber circuit can emit flames if it shorts, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on September 3, 2026. The recall covers five models whose numbers begin with PB: four air conditioners (PBC092J00AA, PBC093J00AA, PBC122J00AA and PBC123J00AA) and one heat pump, PBH092J12AA. According to the notice, the units were sold through direct sales and distribution customers nationwide from April 2025 through June 2026 for between $625 and $900, and were manufactured in India.

Daikin has received two reports of a component on the control board shorting, and no injuries have been reported, per the CPSC notice. Owners are told to stop using the units immediately and to ask Daikin for a full refund; to get it, they must cut the product's cord and upload a photo of the serial number and the cut cord through the company's recall page. The CPSC says the units are most often installed in hotels, apartment buildings and commercial spaces, so the consumers the notice addresses are, by its own account, more often building operators than households. Health Canada's companion notice names the manufacturer as Amber Enterprises India Ltd. and reports no Canadian incidents as of September 1, 2026.

It is the second Amana recall Daikin has announced through the CPSC in 2026. On June 25, 2026, the company recalled about 13,514 Amana window and through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps, plus about 53 in Canada, because a heating element could remain energized during a ground fault despite being turned off; that notice cited one report of plastic on a unit melting, no injuries, and the same cut-the-cord refund remedy. The two recalls list different PB-prefixed model numbers. Both are small next to the August 2023 recall of about 62,100 Amana packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps, whose DigiAir module compressor could overheat.
