LG Energy Solution to give B2U battery priority as both explore US storage

LG Energy Solution said in a release datelined Seoul, September 22, 2026 and posted September 24 that it has entered a strategic partnership with B2U Storage Solutions. The agreement, the release says, "will provide B2U with priority access to battery capacity and enable the partners to explore opportunities" in what it calls the U.S. battery energy storage systems (BESS) market. The partners plan to use B2U's patented technologies to repurpose LG Energy Solution batteries for grid-scale storage, extending their use before recycling; Seung Tak Joo, who leads LG Energy Solution's Energy as a Service business department, says the partnership "advances our strategy to extend the value of our batteries beyond their original applications." The release says the partnership "is dedicated to making BESS more accessible" by offering cost-competitive storage to utilities, energy storage developers and large-scale commercial energy users such as data centers, a market where NVIDIA listed LG Energy Solution among three suppliers with qualified battery systems at its September 21, 2026 DSX Ready introduction (our coverage).

B2U's own release, datelined Los Angeles, September 24, 2026, matches the LG Energy Solution announcement text from its second sentence through the closing paragraph. Its own opening sentence, absent from LG Energy Solution's, calls B2U "the leading provider" where LG Energy Solution's says "a leading provider," and it adds About blocks and media contacts that LG Energy Solution's page lacks.

The partnership paragraphs say the batteries are LG Energy Solution's own and have served an application; they do not say what that application was, the chemistry or pack type, the number of batteries, a price, a site or a date, and the only magnitude the partnership terms give is an aim to provide "gigawatt-hours of storage capacity." The announcement text never mentions electric vehicles; the About blocks on B2U's version do, describing B2U's business as unlocking the value of EV batteries and LG Energy Solution as a maker of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, mobility, IT and energy storage systems.

B2U said on September 9, 2026 that its Bexar Martinez project near San Antonio, connected within CPS Energy's service territory and built entirely from repurposed EV batteries, had entered commercial operation and will be delivering 28 MWh of grid services to ERCOT. Across Texas and California, it said, it manages more than 5,000 repurposed EV batteries and operates roughly 100 MWh of storage in solar-paired and stand-alone configurations. It expects to add more than 50 MWh in ERCOT by about March 2027, and, under what it calls demonstrating bankability, says Bexar Martinez and its other sites qualify for the domestic content bonus under the investment tax credit, have received third-party financing and have been acquired by B2U Infrastructure Partners.
